Stop, Listen.

‘the artist creates a structure … that holds open contemplative space against the pressure of habit, familiarity, and distraction that constantly threaten to close it.ʼ

– Jenny Odell (2019)

Stop, Listen, was a public sound art installation for Banyule City Council by Vincent Giles and Alice Bennett. The work was installed near the Yarra river in Heidelberg and the Plenty river near Yallambie. Featuring passive listening shrouds at different heights, the work encouraged passers-by to listen closely to the environment around them and aimed to create conversation around the importance of the environment, and how listening has lost some significance in the current age.

I pay my deepest respects to the Wurundjeri people, the custodians of the unceded lands on which I live and work.
